Labor Day Weekend Day 1 Adventure!! Lake Conasuega, GA

Labor Day Weekend Day 1-Well, Phyllis started up to Lake Conasuega early so we could make sure we could get a camp site! This is her story! In case you may not know, it is 15 miles of dirt road through the Cohutta Wilderness to get to Lake Conasuega, which is bear country! Now, we have been to this area several times and have yet to see a bear! I contemplated tying a nice T-Bone to my bumper, but decided that might not be enough for a bear and I might become the next course in his meal, so I gave up the idea! But, on our hikes and canoe trips we have searched the woods for bear, to no avail! Well, as Phyllis was driving up the road behind a small, slow moving car (Not good on a road that can loosen your teeth!) She glanced up into the woods as the other car passed a dark shadow! She slammed on the brakes and as she watched she caught sudden movement as the bear dropped from his hide legs to all fours and dove into the underbrush! Now the only real clear part of the bear she saw was its backside, but she still saw a BEAR!!!! Alas, no pictures are available as the bear was faster than her phone camera! Much like those who see the elusive Big Foot, we will just have to take her word that the sighting was real! I arrived later, after an uneventful, bear free, drive! The rest of the evening was spent setting up camp and enjoying amazingly cool weather and a warm camp fire! Despite the fact that she only saw the “Dark Side of the Moon”, Phyllis can lay claim to our first bear sighting! Hope we have many more, but not from the inside of his or her stomach!! More to come on Day 2 and Day 3, photos included ASAP! Have a great Labor Day!
