On our second day, we entered the truly awesome Gorge! The mountains that surround you and the massive river under you make you seem so small and insignificant! We also had a very hard day of paddling because unlike Friday, everyone was on the river Saturday! Boats, jet skis and every other type of craft including 2 huge barges passed us! Since the river is so wide and the wind was blowing, the wake created was fairly large! Every time someone went by we had to turn into the wake and ride over it to avoid being swamped! It was actually a lot of fun but required a great deal of maneuvering and paddling into the waves! We had to cross the river several times and it was like crossing a great sea! Looking up at the mountains, I could imagine all of those who had passed through this gorge for thousands of years! It was an amazing day, but we did not have a confirmed place to camp for the night! After over 9 hours of paddling we were ready for some rest! But I’ll save that for another story!
Oh yeah! We came across more of those buzzards that made me a little nervous, but so far they had been wrong and we were still alive and headed down river!
