The Farm House Inn, Madison, Georgia and Beyond July 2016
Last weekend we were headed to the wedding of Phyllis’ nephew Daniel in Augusta, so we decided to make a weekend of it! We stayed at an amazing Bed and Breakfast in the most beautiful town of Madison, Georgia! The Farm House Inn is absolutely beautiful and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet weekend with some short hiking, a little canoeing and a lot of cute animals! Yes, we finally found a lot of animals even if most weren’t actually wild animals!
We went down after lunch on Friday and once we got settled in to our beautiful room, we walked out to the barns! The chickens, donkey, goats and other animals were very cute and very interactive. The owners also give them cute names including the two fancy roosters, Rod Stewart and Prince! After playing with then for a few minutes, we headed down the trail to Lake Oconee and for the first time I saw a LIVE armadillo! Usually I only see them laying on the side of the road with their legs in the air! This one ran down the trail in front of us and I got a couple of pictures before it disappeared into the trees! At the lake, we took out our host’s canoe and paddled for a little while, although it was VERY hot! We walked back up to the farm house and settled in for the night after an amazing sunset!
Saturday, our host served an amazing breakfast and she and her husband joined us for some great conversation! After that, we were off to Augusta for the wedding! It was a very sweet wedding, even though I am not a huge fan of weddings in general, and the food at the reception was very good! It was great to see family and then head back to Madison!
On the way back, we took backroads and visited several really neat small towns! We got back to Madison in time for dinner! Both Friday and Saturday nights we ate at a local Chop House in town that was excellent! After diner we took the walking tour of Madison! They have an amazing App that can be downloaded for free that takes you to all of beautiful; houses, churches and sites in the area! It was a wonderful evening walk and great history! Headed back to the Farm for another sunset and restful night!
Sunday, another delicious breakfast and visit with our hosts and then we packed up to head home! On the way back, we took backroads and visited several more really neat small towns and then stopped by Hard Labor Creek State Park! This is one of those off the beaten path parks that has some wonderful facilities! We checked everything out for future trips, then went back to the interstate to make our way home!
This wasn’t one of our most adventurous weekends, but it was one of the most relaxing and had some of the prettiest man made scenery and cool animals and natural scenery! A very good way to wrap up our last outing of the summer and get ready for school and some fall adventures! Of course, every minute with my beautiful wife, Phyllis Maggard Allee, is an adventure and a joy! Always looking forward to more!!
