Charleston Harbor View-Christmas 2016

You know you are a little crazy when you are the only people to book a sailing tour in December! Of course the kite-surfer we passed was a lot crazier than we were! I always work on the philosophy that AT LEAST one person is crazier than I am! Our sailing tour was actually a sailing lesson and I got to do a lot of the work on the trip! It was a beautiful sunny day, but as you can see from our dress, it was a little cool and a lot breezy (For a great sailing trip the breezy works for you!)!
We started our trip with a lesson on all the nautical terms and what all the ropes were for! Captain Andrew was a great instructor and a great sport for taking us out in the cold! As I said, we were the only sail boat in the harbor and on up the river! After pulling out of the marina, we set sail and took off! For most of the trip we were almost on our side as the heavy wind pushed us rapidly down the harbor! We past Patriot’s Point for another amazing view, then we noticed a HUGE freighter coming up behind us! After a while, it passed by us and it was truly remarkable! Even Captain Andrew, who is out on this water often, said he had never seen one that big going up the river! Even more amazing, after it reached the docks, we watched 2 tug boats turn it 180 degrees around! Going under the Cooper River Bridge was also a very different view of this amazing structure! After turning around and catching the current we went back down the harbor even faster and our 3 hour tour finally came to an end! It didn’t turn into Gilligan’s Island, but it was an incredible 3 hour experience! We finish off the afternoon with a great seafood lunch at the marina side Fish House! Great clam chowder and shrimp!
