Last weekend, we set out to do some hiking and exploring. Our first stop was Fort Mountain, which was also the stop of tons of people. We hiked to the fire tower and Beast had to visit every dog we passed, which was about 2 dozen! It made for a slow hike. It was a little too crowded for us, so we hit the road again.
We went on up over the mountain and headed into the Cohutta on the Lake Conasauga Road. We love these dirt back roads. We headed up the mountain and made our way to Lake Conasauga with Abby deciding to ride in the back of the truck! She loves to do that when we are on the back roads. When we got to the lake, most everything was closed, but the road to the boat ramp was still open and we parked and decided to walk the lake trail. That’s when the fun really started.
Since we were almost the only ones in the area, we bent the rules and let Beast run free. He and the kids ran and ran and ran! They would hide and jump out and scare him and he would run away and then turn back and charge at them. He would then do what Abby calls juking them. As they reach for his leash, he turns and runs in the other direction. He then walks right up to them and just about lets them catch his leash, then zips away. I’ll bet they ran five miles on a one mile trail.
The first time Beast leaped in the cold water, I was a little worried, but it didn’t seem to bother him! He did get going so fast one time that when he tried to stop he flew right into the lake. I think that one surprised him. He dried out fast by running more! He passed out cold in the car as we left the lake. He was happily exhausted!
We rounded out the day with some driving and overlooks in the Cohutta. We stopped for some great Mexican food in Chatsworth and then headed home! It was a wonderful day with perfect weather and great family time!
