Beast and I set out last Friday for a good long day in the woods and on some trails. Web both need to burn off some energy and I need to get my weight back where I want it! Add a little adventure to that and we were raring to go! I have been wanting to check out the Resaca Battlefield Park since it opened, but every time I headed that way something else called and I changed plans! This time we made it to the park around 10 and we were the only ones there! I love having places like this to myself! Not quite as remote as the Cohutta, but a whole lot easier to get to!
We hit the longest blue trail first and I let Beast run! And RUN! And RUN! He ran full speed up and down the trail. The funniest thing was the pine straw! He would fly down the trail and when he tried to turn around and come back, he would hit the straw and slide! He was drifting! He had a blast! Of course, there was water and he found every puddle! As we crossed the fields, he ran some more!
We put in about 3 miles after walking across the fields. I think Beast probably put in about 10 going back and forth! We did the white trail and part of the red trail before we headed out of the park. We made a quick stop at the Confederate Cemetery and Ft. Wayne and put in a little more making a total of about 6 miles! Beast went fast asleep when we got back in the car! I think I finally wore him out!
We got some history, some hiking and some good outdoor time in! The Resaca Park is amazing! I know how many people worked for years to make it happen and they can be proud of what they accomplished! I hope everyone in Gordon County checks it out if you haven’t! We often miss the things right in our back yard!
