Oostanaula River-June 2106

Another great day on the River and completed another major goal! Phyllis and I headed out this morning for what I thought was a 17 mile paddle from Hwy 156 to Hwy 140. Thanks to an old book and a newer boat ramp, turned out to be only a 12 mile trip! However, it did solve a major mystery about a trip my mom and I took last week! I thought that trip seemed to last forever and I guess it did because it was actually almost 24 miles long thanks to the same issue I mentioned above! Anyway, Phyllis and I had a great day! NO RAIN!!! We saw some amazing wildlife including the usual heron, turtles etc., but we saw 3 sturgeon, one that came to the surface right beside the boat! They were only a foot to a foot and a half long, but still cool to see in the wild! We also saw some cool dragon flies including one that decided to hitch a ride with Phyllis! Lots of ducks, other fish and hawks, a turkey buzzard (Luckily it wasn’t coming for us!) And a bald eagle! We stopped for lunch on a huge island near a beautiful rock garden and had an amazing time! This completed the 50 miles of the Oostanaula. We have paddle the entire thing! We have also done the entire Coosawattee above and below Carter’s Dam, and the entire 30 plus miles of the Coosa in Georgia! Looking forward to many more rivers to conquer!
