Charleston-Francis Marion National Forrest and Wambah Creek-2016

We headed north to Francis Marion Wilderness and Wambah Creek, an incredible swamp creek with tidal water flow! The tides worried me a little bit, but I read them just right and the tide was strong behind us on the way into the swamp and turned and was behind us on the way out of the swamp! We paddled about 5 miles into the swamp and it was so wild and beautiful with all the cypress and tupelo trees! Tons of birds and other animals, but no alligators that we were able to see! We finally reached an area where we kept getting caught on logs and there were too many blocks across the creek as it narrowed, so we turned and headed back! It is strange how things look different on the way out than they did on the way in! It was like seeing the swamp from in whole different way! As much as I loved the other experiences, the peaceful, quiet journey through the swamp was probably my favorite part of the trip! Sharing the time with the love of my life just made it all the better! Having Phyllis with me just makes every moment more special! We made a few more stops at a nearby plantation, a beautiful little town and a great little roadside seafood restaurant!!
