Sometimes We Don’t Like What We Hear!

Today I was I unfriended. Now, I have a tough skin so it really didn’t bother me. However, what bothered me was that I was trying to offer hard, but helpful advice to someone that I think really needed it. Since I failed at that, I will offer some advice to all who care to read this. If you surround yourself with people that only tell you what you want to hear instead of what you need to hear, you may feel better for a short time, but you will never truly fix the problems in your life. I have many faults, but I have alway surrounded myself with people that will be brutally honest and help me fix things that I can’t see. Others can see our issues better than we can and if we refuse to even consider advice then we will always fail to fix the problems that hurt us the most. If someone offers you advice, it isn’t an attack and it doesn’t mean they are perfect. It means they are concerned that you can’t see an issue and they care enough to try to help you with it. Listen in good faith and then really look at yourself. You can decide if the advice is something that might help you or not. I hope I have friends around me who would offer that kind of advice even if it were hard for me to hear. Listening to good, hard advice now might make the road you travel easier months or years from now. What do you have to loose by trying something different? Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t, but at worst you end up where you started. At best, you resolve the problem. As Forrest Gump said, One less thing to worry about!!
