Captain Beast and The Little River-August 2018

Beast and I set out for Alabama early on Wednesday! We reached our put in at Big Oak Campground on Lake Weiss. Our real goal wasn’t the lake, but to travel as far up the Little River as possible! It turned out that we found three offshoots of the Little River and also explored Wolf Creek.

The first branch of Little River actually turned out to be the best. It wasn’t that we were able to go that far up, but we found a beautiful place to play! Beast ran through the rapids in the crystal clear water, while I sat in the rapids and enjoyed the cool water. After our first trip up this branch, we explored 2 others, but they ended in stagnate water and swampy areas. We went back up the first branch and relaxed again to eat lunch! It was a beautiful and peaceful place! As hot as the day was, the water made it feel much cooler.

After lunch, we found Wolf Creek and went way up the waterway. We explored some smaller creeks and the large pool well up stream! It was a swampy area also, but it had wide deep water. There were tons of wildlife, especially Heron, and we enjoyed watching them play! There were also schools of thousands of small fish all around us. Every time they moved, Beast would jump up and watch them! It was so funny to watch. After about an hour, we headed back.

We made a wide lap around an island and a huge bay. It was so pretty and the weather turned out perfect. Just enough clouds to keep it from being too hot, but no rain! We pulled back in to Big Oak Campground at mid-afternoon and loaded up! It was another great day and a cool area to explore!
