Shelley the Armadillo-Lake Guntersville 2016

On our first day of paddling Lake Guntersville, I noticed a movement in the woods and we pulled in to see what it was! We saw the shell move and then the rest of the Armadillo popped up from behind a log! I climbed out of the boat and Shelley took off running, but she wasn’t that smart and may have been a little deaf, because I walked up to within three feet of her! I have only seen a couple of Armadillos alive (Most are laying on the side of the road with their legs up in the air!) and this is the closest I have ever gotten! It was almost like she was posing for me to take pictures! She went right on rooting through the logs for bugs and seemed to be totally oblivious to me most of the time! It was amazing to observe her and after a while, I was sad to have to say goodbye! I could swear I saw a tear in her eye when I said goodbye and walked away! She was so ugly she was cute!
