Pisgah Gorge is another place I had never heard of, but I had spotted it on a map and wanted to see if it was worth seeing! We drove and drove into the mountains and then drove some more! We finally made it to the tiny town of Pisgah and went to where my maps said the gorge was! All we found was a baseball field, but then I found a review that said the trail and gorge were behind the field down a dirt road! We walked the road and came to amphitheater deck that was well kept and sat out over the gorge! Now, I had promised Phyllis that we weren’t hiking any more for that day, but I wanted to see the rest of the gorge! I could see Phyllis wasn’t over excited, but I can usually talk her into pushing a little further! So, off down the trail we went! About a quarter mile down a side trail dropped straight down to the top of the second falls in the gorge! Phyllis decided to stay at the top and wait, so I headed down the “trail” which was more of a rock climb! When I got to the gorge it was amazing! It was almost dry and I can only imagine what it looks like at full flow, but it was actually easier to explore with no water in the gorge! I called for Phyllis to come on down and despite a little cold staring at me, she did! When she got to the top of the falls she was impressed, but I stilled made sure I didn’t get too close to the edge until her mood improved! I don’t think she would have pushed me over, but you can’t be too safe! She didn’t want to explore, so I let her rest while I went on up the canyon toward the other falls we had seen from above! It was incredible! The walls of the gorge were huge and the water was puddled in areas, but no complete blocks! I walked all the way up to the base of the other falls and the rock formations were amazing! I loved the area, but even more because I don’t think many people ever go here! Unlike Little River Canyon, this Gorge and these falls are very isolated and secluded! When I came back and rounded Phyllis up, we headed back up the trail! After we reached the top, I pushed one more time to go on down the trail to an over look at the very top of the trail! After a little push, she agreed! It was a short walk and another beautiful view of the entire gorge! At this point, I was nervous Phyllis would finish me off with a push if I tried to do any more, so back we went down the trail and to the car! The end of an amazing weekend with my incredible wife! I can’t wait to go back when this gorge has water in it! It has to be even more beautiful!
